What to check on any used tire

  • The DOT date: the last four digits are the week and year it was made
  • Tread depth, measured, not eyeballed
  • Any repairs, and where they are
  • Sidewall cuts, cracking or bulges
  • Even wear across the tread
  • That it matches the tire beside it on the same axle

We'll show you all of it before you buy. Read the used tire guide

When new makes more sense

Used is a smart buy for matching a single tire or stretching a budget. For a full set on a car you'll keep, or anything you tow with, new tires usually cost less per mile. We'll tell you which way we'd go.

Used tire questions

What's a take-off tire?

A tire removed from a vehicle before it wore out, usually because the owner upgraded wheels or tires soon after buying. Many have most of their tread left.

Which sizes do you have?

It changes. Call (909) 321-2191 or send your size with the form on this page and we'll tell you what's here.

Is a used tire safe?

A good one is. Age, depth, repairs and damage decide it. Skip any used tire that's old, patched in the wrong place or worn unevenly.

Can I mix one used tire with three new ones?

On a two-wheel-drive car, a matching used tire can work if the tread depth is close. Many all-wheel-drive vehicles need all four tires within a tight tread-depth range, so check your owner's manual first.
