About Continental

Continental started out as Continental-Caoutchouc und Gutta-Percha Compagnie, a rubber company. It's now a large German automotive supplier, but for drivers the name still means tires.

The naming tells you where each tire fits. TrueContact and CrossContact are touring tires for cars and SUVs. ExtremeContact is the performance family, in both all-season (DWS06 Plus) and summer (Sport 02) versions. TerrainContact covers trucks and SUVs, from highway to all-terrain.

Continental and General Tire share a parent. Continental is the premium side. General covers the Grabber truck tires and the AltiMAX touring line.

Drivers of European sedans and sport sedans who want a premium all-season, and SUV owners who rack up freeway miles on the 10 and the 15.

Continental questions

Does Continental own General Tire?

Yes. Continental bought General Tire from GenCorp in 1987. The brands keep separate lineups.

ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus or Sport02?

Continental lists the DWS06 Plus as an ultra-high performance all-season and the Sport02 as an ultra-high performance summer tire. Around Montclair a summer tire works most of the year. If the car goes to the mountains in winter, pick the all-season.
