General Tire was founded in Akron, Ohio in 1915 and became part of Continental in 1987. Its range today is built around the Grabber truck tires and the AltiMAX and G-MAX car tires.
Continental AG, Germany (since 1987)
Mounted, balanced and installed on Moreno Street.
Five Akron men, William O'Neil among them, started General in 1915. GenCorp sold the tire business to Continental in 1987, and the two brands have shared a parent ever since.
Grabber is the truck side. The Grabber A/TX pairs the Grabber X3 sidewall with tread elements from the Grabber AT2, carries the three-peak mountain snowflake mark and is studdable. The Grabber X3 is the heavier off-road tire, with LT sizes up to load range E.
On cars, the AltiMAX RT45 is the touring all-season. General released it in July 2022 in 136 sizes and says it wears 10 percent longer than the RT43 it replaced. The G-MAX AS-07 is the performance all-season.
Truck owners who want an aggressive all-terrain from a major maker's family, and commuters who want a long-wearing touring tire.

General Tire has been part of Continental since 1987. It keeps its own name and lineup, with Grabber, AltiMAX and G-MAX as the main families.
The A/TX is the all-terrain: aggressive look, severe-snow rated, still fine for a daily commute. The X3 is built for heavier off-road use, with LT sizes in load ranges C through E. If the truck is your daily driver, start with the A/TX.
General lists a limited treadwear warranty of up to 75,000 miles and a 45-day trial. The mileage depends on the size and speed rating, so check the terms for yours.
