Nokian tires in Montclair

Nokian Tyres is the Finnish company that invented the winter tire in 1934. For Southern California the brand matters for a different reason: its US-built all-season and all-weather tires carry some of the longest treadwear warranties on the market.

Nokian Tyres plc, Nokia, Finland, listed on Nasdaq Helsinki. North American tires are built at its plant in Dayton, Tennessee.

Mounted, balanced and installed on Moreno Street.

About Nokian

The company's roots go back to 1898 and the Finnish Rubber Factory. Nokian Tyres in its current form dates to 1988, went public in 1995, and still runs its head office, a factory and a test center in Nokia, Finland. It calls itself the world's northernmost tire maker. The Hakkapeliitta winter line, first sold in 1936, is what it is famous for at home.

The North American story starts in Dayton, Tennessee. Nokian opened the plant in 2019 and began commercial production in 2020, building all-season and all-weather tires for US cars and pickups. The One all-season uses aramid fibers under the sidewall, the same material as in Nokian's heavy-duty tires, and ships with an 80,000-mile limited treadwear warranty plus a pothole protection warranty. The Outpost all-terrains are made in Tennessee too.

Nokian also runs a standalone value brand, Nordman, relaunched in 2023. Its Solstice 4 is an all-weather tire with the three-peak mountain snowflake and a 50,000-mile warranty. Price-wise, Nokian sits with Michelin and Continental, not with the value tier.

Drivers who put serious miles on the 10 and the 60 and want the longest treadwear warranty they can get, and families who drive up to Big Bear or Wrightwood in winter and want one set of tires for the whole year.
